THE PARENTESI
The Venetian Walls
On board of the now legendary electric tuk-tuks and in the company of Claudio Cecchinelli, UNESCO’s city manager, you’ll be able to visit the monumental Venetian Walls, built in the 16th century by the Republic of Venice to protect Bergamo Alta. During the itinerary there will be a meeting with volunteers of “Orobicambiente”, an association for the environmental protection of Bergamo, that since 2005 performs the maintenance of the walls.
The Castle of Valverde
After passing the walls of S. Lorenzo, you will reach the Castle of Valverde which, with its wonderful park, is a jewel of orobica (traditionally made in Bergamo) architecture. Here you’ll be welcomed by the hostess to tell you the story of her family and grandmother, Lydia Gelmi Cattaneo, who received in 1974 the recognition "Just among the Nations" for having saved many Jewish families during the war.
European Capital of Cheese
At the end of your visit to the castle, under the portico of the courtyard, you’ll be served a table with the most irresistible Bergamo cheeses. In the company of a specialized sommelier, you will taste 30 traditional wines, 9 PDO and 3 Slow Food Presidia: an extraordinary heritage that makes Bergamo the European Capital of Cheeses and has earned it the prestigious recognition of UNESCO as Creative City.
