THE PARENTESI
The narrator
With Adriana Gandolfi, anthropologist and expert in ethnic goldsmithing from Abruzzo, you will learn about the deep bond that unites the goldsmith's art of Scanno to sheep farming, rituals, superstitious beliefs and local clothes. You will thus be able to discover the “Presentosa”: an iconic jewel of Abruzzo, created in the eighteenth century as a gift of love and also known thanks to Gabriele D'Annunzio, who described it as "a large filigree star with two hearts in the middle".
Ancient treasures
The first stop on the route will be the Antico Laboratorio Di Rienzo, you will be witness to the excellent production with which the family has established itself in Italy and abroad ever since 1850. Inside you will be able to see historical jewels and the work’s tools: a journey through necklaces, medallions, bracelets and earrings that have marked the goldsmith's art of Scanno.
The art of making
With the second stop at the Rotolo Goldsmith art workshop, founded in 1884, you will get to the heart of the craftsman's craft. Here, Francesco Rotolo will show you his creations and show you how he makes his jewels with the bobbin lace technique. An opportunity to observe the master's hands at work, as they create unique pieces capable of recovering and renewing the ancient heritage.
Precious land
At the end of the experience, a tasting of cheeses and salami will be waiting for you at Bioagriturismo Valle Scannese, where today the tradition of sheep farming and the biodiversity of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park are carefully preserved.
A moment to savor the richness of the territory and the millenary culture of the shepherds whom, over the centuries, have also influenced the local goldsmith tradition.
