THE PARENTESI
A long thread of wool
The term 'loden' seems to originate from the archaic German word “lodo”, which indicated the 'bale of wool' from which it comes, if not precisely a 'dress of raw linen'. Used in the Middle Ages by shepherds as a waterproof fabric to shelter from the cold Alpine winters, ever since the nineteenth century the Loden has become a fashionable item of clothing: chosen by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria for his hunting trips, which gave it the classic green color, it was then worn in the 60s by royals, sportsmen and movie stars, establishing itself as a versatile style icon.
The World of Loden
Today the Loden fully represents part of the sartorial tradition and customs of Tyrol, a story told by the Loden World Museum: an experiential and multimedia journey that illustrates - through historical tools, machinery, photographic documentation, designs of clothes since the nineteenth century until the present day - the various phases of production, from shearing to the packaging of the clothes, and the evolution of its sartorial style.
On a teacher's loom
The activity of filature made by women on long winter evenings, the journeys of the cloth peddlers and the fulling of wool: the imagery and the world of loden will be told to you by the experience and passion of a master seamstress, whom will also guide you inside the tailor's shop to show you from a practical point of view, through the loom, the steps of wool processing.
